Celebrating Dora's 104th birthday

A genteel celebration was held last weekend (7th July) to celebrate Dora Banfield’s 104th birthday!

It was held with her family and employees at Brunelcare’s Deerhurst care home in Soundwell, Bristol. Dora has recently moved to Deerhurst from Taunton, to be closer to family.

Dora was born in Kent in 1914 and was brought up on a farm. She has three children: two daughters (Mary & Jane) and a son (Maurice) and no less than eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren! She trained as an infant school teacher in London before getting married and moving to Taunton. Dora loved doing and teaching art, and also ran her own art classes. When Dora was 93 years old she had a book called “A window into Art”, inspirations for creative art, published. Dora has been a very active church member and did voluntary work for her local community.

When asked why she thought she was still living well at 104, Dora said:

“I had wonderful parents and a good Christian life, a wonderful family and I drink plenty of water”.

Lesley Hobbs, Manager of Brunelcare’s Deerhurst care home says:

“Dora is such a kind and gentle lady. It’s such a compliment that she chose to come and live with us - joining our ever growing group of centenarians!”
